COVID-19, what a palava. I mean seriously, what the hell. There are a lot of unfortunate, sad and heart breaking stories of both people and businesses being affected by the truly unprecedented economic halt.
In the startup world, the words adapt, revise and change are as close as we get to a set of commandments. When the US Government started the economic shutdown, I must admit, I got nervous. Imagine being in my position. Who wants to be 5 months into a new business venture, 2 months out of beta, with revenue starting to come in and the majority of our kinks worked out? Not many people.
During this time, restaurants have become takeout only and placing tables at their door steps to limit contact with customers. Social norms are changing before our eyes; if I refused to shake someone’s hand in January, I would have been designated ill mannered. Monday, March 16th, I awoke to a text for my partner and CEO, Forest Zukerman, “Everything is in a state of flux, but we need to stay focused.” Translated, ignore the noise and let’s find a fix.
Video Consultations. Nothing groundbreaking. A widely unused, undervalued and over complicated system for no reason. People generally abide by the status quo, not because it’s the most effective or efficient. In their mind, it’s the easiest and the most understood option. Within that same day we had automated, using our machine learning AI, and implemented a new product. Not only does it adhere to social distancing and fully HIPAA compliant, it has far wider applications. Extending a surgeon’s reach geographically, out of hours consultations and follow ups, and better accommodating candidates schedules to name a few. A 30 minute doctor’s office consultation can, in reality, be over 2 hours of a candidates time.
Our Video Consultation format, in conjunction with our proprietary data driven sniper marketing, quantification process, real time booking and scheduling software, means this is not just a temporary adaption but a new product that is here to stay. It is so easy to use, we can have our surgeons up and running from home (just remember to wear trousers, you’re on camera!) even if they are one of the unfortunate practices that has either furloughed or layed off their staff.
